MONT ST MICHEL  (UNESCO site):

It seems an incredible place on the picture isn't it? Well, it's even more incredible in reality !

In 708 Archangel St Michael gave the order to the bishop of the nearby city of Avranches to build a sanctuary on top of the Mount "Tombe". The sanctuary was replaced by an Abbey, which was extended century by century until the French Revolution. Lots of pilgrims came for the forgiving of their sins and a village was built at the foot of the Abbey.

Your guide will take you through the village to the Abbey, telling you the whole story.

Plan an early departure to avoid crowds. Good and comfortable, non slippery shoes recommended : lots of steps...

The Mount becomes an island at high tide only during large tides which happens a few days every year. But you will be amazed by the beauty of the ever changing bay. The bay of Mont St Michel is also a UNESCO site.
