Short Tour JUNO BEACH n° 2: Bernières sur mer

The Canadian soldiers of the 8th Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division,  who landed in front of this house, occupied by German Forces on D Day, suffered severe casualties. But the assault went on, wave after wave, more soldiers and equipment, came ashore and fought their way across the village.

Civilians started getting out from their shelters to meet their liberators, but these ones had no time to lose : they had to reach their objectives inland as fast as possible, before the German reinforcements arrival.

With maps and pictures, I will  let you imagine what happened here on June 6 ,1944.
